Thyroidectomy facilitated with Harmonic Caliper and intraoperative neural monitoring in three horses

چکیده
Background Thyroidectomy in horses is performed conventionally; however, both iatrogenic and post-operative complications occur, mostly due to injury of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). Objective To facilitate sufficient understanding use Harmonic Focus® Shear (HFS) together with intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) RLN during thyroidectomy horses. Study design Retrospective case series. Methods Three were presented a thyroid mass, hemithyroidectomy was using HFS IONM. Medical records reviewed. Findings at short-term follow-up 6 weeks after surgery long-term obtained from referring veterinarian or owner 3 years evaluated. Results The 9–17 old. Thyroid enlargement unilateral all horses, two on left side one right side. Histological findings consistent adenocarcinoma, C-cell adenocarcinoma adenoma each horse. Neither intraoperative- nor encountered. Short- showed that returned previous activity. Main limitations limitation this study small sample size, reflecting low prevalence disease rarity procedure Conclusions IONM enabled an easy, precise dissection, adequate haemostasis direct visualisation thyroidectomy, avoiding its damage allowing evaluation function intraoperatively.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether nerve integrity monitor testing during thyroidectomy predicts recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) function after surgery. DESIGN Prospective cohort outcomes study PATIENTS The study included 210 consecutive patients with thyroid abnormalities who underwent thyroidectomy. METHODS All patients were intraoperatively monitored with a nerve integrity monitoring syste...

Objective. To evaluate the clinical efficacy of laryngeal nerve (LN) monitoring (LNM) during total endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast approach, with emphasis on the identification rates for RLN and EBSLN and the incidence of RLN paralysis. Materials and Methods. This retrospective study included 280 patients who underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy with or without LNM. RLN and EBSLN were identif...
متن کاملSafe thyroidectomy with intraoperative methylene blue spraying
UNLABELLED BACKGROUND We aimed to minimalize operative complications by spraying of methylene blue stain on thyroid glands and the perithyroidal area. MATERIAL AND METHODS The intra-operative methylene blue spraying technique was used prospectively on a total of 56 patients who had undergone primary (not recurrent) thyroid surgery for a variety of thyroid diseases. Bilateral total thyroide...
متن کاملMinimally Invasive Video-Assisted Thyroidectomy and Parathyroidectomy with Intraoperative Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Monitoring
Dr. Kandil [1] reported their experience in intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) in endoscopic thyroid surgery. I have carefully read this paper. These colleagues have made a similar contribution in respect of our previous paper (published online on Surgical Endoscopy on September 21, 2008) [2]. I would like to point out that a comparative series on endoscopic thyroidectomy with IONM versus no...

Objective. Our goal is to study the feasibility of using intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) in minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy (MIVAT/P) with emphasis given to the identification of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). Methods. Consecutive series of forty-seven patients with seventy-seven recurrent laryngeal nerves at risk undergoing both MIVAT/P and IONM we...
